Basket Rib Hand Towel Set

February 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Yay! My swap partner received today, so I can finally post pictures of the hand towel set I made for her!

I used the Basket Rib Hand Towel pattern on Ravelry with the following modifications:
– cast on 62 stitches
– work pattern 30 times
– repeat row 1
– repeat row 2
– bind off in knit

Matching washcloth I made with the leftover yarn:

This was my first time knitting towels and I’m super happy with how they turned out! I can’t wait to make a set for myself! :)

Be My Dishcloth

February 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I know that I haven’t posted in a few weeks, but it’s definitely not because I haven’t been crafting! Most of the stuff I have been working on lately is for a swap (which gets sent out next week) so I am unable to post about it until then. Other than the swap stuff, I made a quick dishcloth last week for the husband for Valentine’s Day. I used the Be My Dishcloth pattern that I found on Ravelry –

I’ve also made a few additions to my crafting book collection:

  • Creepy Cute Crochet by Christen Haden which I absolutely love! My husband has even requested that I teach him how to Crochet so that he can make some of the incredibly cute amigurumi figures in this book! If you don’t already know how to do the Magic Ring (or Magic Circle) technique that is used to start each pattern in this book, I highly recommend checking out this youtube video to learn the technique. Christen attempts to explain the technique in the book, but the pictures aren’t very good for this part.
  • Encyclopedia of Scrapbooking by Tracy White. I haven’t gotten a chance to spend too much time going through this book, but it looks like a great reference book. I don’t actually scrapbook, but I purchased it to learn different techniques which I can apply to card making.

After I get all of my swap stuff done and finally finish the argyle scarf I’ve been working on, I am going to bust out some of my new knitpicks knitting needles (I used my birthday money and got a nice selection last month) and attempt to learn not only the Magic Loop technique for knitting socks, but also how to knit 2 socks at a time on the same 40″ circular needle using some of the beautiful Panda Cotton yarn I picked up a couple months ago.

Wish me luck!

A few finished Christmas gifts

January 3, 2009 · 3 Comments

Here are a few giftmas presents I made for my family this year.

First, a knitted scarf for my father (just a simple 2×2 rib) -

Next, a hat for my brother (the pattern is called A hat fit for a boyfriend) -

This was actually my second time knitting this pattern. The first time was on Thanksgiving but I only had green yarn so I ended up making a ‘prototype‘. I’m not quite sure what I’m going to do with it yet :)

And here is the scarf I’m working on for my husband but still have about 70% to go (the pattern is Uncle Argyle Scarfs from Son of a Stitch ‘n Bitch) -

I’m really excited about how this is knitting up. It’s my first time attempting double knitting and I’m really liking the reversible scarf.

In addition to the knitted items, I also sewed my mother some potholders but haven’t uploaded the picture yet.

My name is Jenn and I’m 26, recently married, crafty, and vegan. I live in the Windy City with my amazing husband and our spoiled kitty Tashi. I do all sorts of crafts including knitting, sewing, paper crafts, crochet, and other random things. When I’m not crafting I can usually be found cooking, playing board games, reading, or watching movies. You can find me on Ravelry and also on Craftster where I moderate the Clothing forum.
